Self-Driving Cars could be driving you sooner than you thought
According to a report in The
Guardian, 3 companies have been granted 29 permits to test self-driving
cars in California.
While Google got a whopping 25 permits for adapted Toyota
Lexus SUV’s, 2 each were given to Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen
AG's Audi.
There are other car makers such as Honda for instance which
has created its own version of the driverless car in a Honda Acura trying to acquire
permits for testing their driverless cars. The basic idea seems to be basically
a driverless vehicle that at present can give its control back to the driver if
need arises.
California has always been open to autonomous vehicles since
2012, but the state announced new rules for testing on public roads earlier this
year that went into effect this month. In addition to the California, Michigan,
Nevada and Florida also allow self-driving trials on public roads.
So are we close to a new revolution in transportation and
maybe even road safety?
